Montoursville — The reporter had a hard day. Starting at 7:30 a.m. he visited three different West Branch towns, traveled more than 60 miles by automobile and interviewed more than 20 persons. And interviewing folks interested in this year’s World Series is no easy task.
Last evening four important assignments remained to be covered. One was a wedding. That was at 6 o’clock. Then following an interview with a prominent borough resident. This was followed at 7:30 o’clock, the hour for both the council meeting and the borough school board’s monthly meeting.
The reporter elected to attend first the borough council meeting, remaining there till about 9:30 o’clock when he made a hurried visit four blocks away to look in on the school board session and then back to the council meeting.
By 10:30 o’clock as the borough council was going through its mass of business, the rush of the day and open-air driving of 60 miles caused the news gatherer’s head to nod in drowsiness. Lower and lower went the head until all consciousness passed.
A tap on the head by the chief of police brought him back in time to hear the president of council announce: “Well, gentlemen we have held up the proceedings until the reporter awakes.”
