Williamsport Sun: July 30, 1951 – Sandlotters to Parade at Bowman Field

Williamsport’s baseball-might will be on display at Bowman Field, the night of August 11, when the players of all 13 leagues affiliated with the Williamsport Amateur Baseball Association will be guests of the Williamsport Tigers for the Eastern League game between the Tigers and the Hartford Chiefs.

Matthew M. Freedman, president of the amateur association announced today that presidents of all member clubs have been contacted and indicated that 100 percent representation for the occasion is assured.

The plan is to have all players of the association teams, from the midgets in the city to the city league in full uniform assemble at Bowman Field an hour before game time and parade from the outfield to home plate, after which they will be seated in the stands.

There will be approximately 700 ballplayers represented, ranging from age 5 to 46, and from 3 to 6 1/2 feet on dress parade. In arranging for the presentation of such a spectacle, the management of the Williamsport Tigers purpose to acquaint Tiger fans with the magnitude of the sandlot program in the city.

With all players attired in the uniforms of their respective clubs the most colorful exhibit of the season is anticipated.

League presidents are being asked to adjust their schedules so that Monday, August 11, will be an open date, leaving all clubs free to participate in the Amateur Night show.
