Announcement today that Junction Street, South Williamsport, being improved with brick, is to be opened to traffic in a week to 10 days caused Burgess Charles W. Noll to make tentative arrangements for a big demonstration to celebrate the completion of this highway and the new Market Street pavement.
The Market Street pavement was completed some time ago and with good weather the contractors expect completion of the Junction Street job in a week to 10 days. Brick is being laid, starting at the South Williamsport-DuBoistown line and working east. The workers are some distance east of Elm Street, which is over half the route. The intersection at Maynard and Junction streets is to be torn up and repaved, which will cause some delay in opening the street.
Burgess Noll has complete charge of the arrangements for the demonstration and will name his own committees. Plans call for a parade over both streets. It will include pupils of three schools, fraternal organizations, industrial workers and all who wish to take part. It is also the intention of the burgess to arrange the event so that it will come close to Halloween. Mummers can then have a division in the parade.
At least one prominent speaker will address a mass meeting at some location in the borough, probably on one of the improved streets. A benefit dance is planned for the community building to help defray the costs of the parade and demonstration.
