There are many various charity golf tournaments that are held all over. But one area charity golf tournament is connected with a group that honors and aids our deceased and wounded veterans as the “Folds of Honor” Golf Tournament to be held on September 18 at Wynding Brook Golf Club in Milton.
Chad Anthony is the Head Golf Professional at Clinton Country Club in Mill Hall. The All Fore Folds Tournament started when his father, Butch Anthony, and him were at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, FL and they stopped by to see what the Folds of Honor booth was. After talking to Tony Biata from Folds of Honor, Anthony and his father were immediately drawn into the organization and their mission; Honor Their Sacrifice, Educate Their Legacy.
Folds of Honor provides educational scholarships to the children and spouses of our fallen and disabled service members while serving our nation.
“We were not sure how we wanted to get started or when we were going to do it,” Anthony told Webb Weekly. “After a year or two we decided to just go for it and start a charity golf tournament to benefit Folds of Honor at Wynding Brook Golf Club while I was the Director of Golf at the course.
May 6, 2016 was the date chosen to hold the 1st Annual All Fore Folds Golf Tournament. He said they had a wet and dreary day for the tournament that 25 foursomes participated in. Their goal was to raise a minimum of $5,000 since that is the dollar amount of the scholarships. “However, I know that first year tournaments don’t usually hit their goals,” Anthony said. “My wife, my kids and my parents, were all on hand helping run the tournament for the day. We ended up raising $5,156.00.”
According to Anthony, each year they have grown, not only in participation but in sponsors and in total dollars raised.
2016 – 25 teams, 20 sponsors – $5,156.00 raised.
2017 – 29 teams, 25 sponsors – $9,000.00 raised.
2018 – 36 teams, 26 sponsors – $10,000.00 raised. (With $1,000 more at a later date for a total $11,000)
2019 – 36 teams, 37 sponsors – $16,500.00 raised. (With $1,000 more at a later date for a total $17,500)
In the 4 years since its inception, the All Fore Folds Golf Tournament has raised $42,656.00 which is the equivalent of eight scholarships. This year they, unfortunately, had to turn away 14 teams because they were filled up at 36 foursomes. The 2019 tournament sold out by March 30, two months before the tournament was held. They have had a total of 504 golfers participate in the tournament since its inception, not including this year’s tournament. The tournament has been recognized by Folds of Honor as being in the top 100 performers in 2018 and 2019.
“This year has been a tough year. The tournament was supposed to be held on Friday, June 5th but due to COVID-19, it has been moved to Friday September 18. We have sold out again. We have 36 foursomes for the 1 p.m. shotgun and we have opened up some availability for groups to participate in the tournament by going out at 8 a.m. We are honored to do our part in helping this foundation honor our military families.”
