On the Grow…

On the Grow…

I am absolutely terrible at keeping plants alive. I’ve killed the unkillable. Even air plants have lost their lives under my watch. It’s almost comical. But for some reason, I keep trying. And, y’all, I’ve to tell you, I think I may finally have a handle on it!

I currently have three houseplants that are thriving! A bonsai tree, a Bromeliad and an aloe plant. The aloe plant is a particular miracle, since there was an incident with the dog, the cat and the plant losing an arm. Luckily, it wasn’t all for naught, as the broken piece of aloe was used to make homemade hand sanitizer!

So far, I have succeeded in keeping these beauties alive and well! They look healthy and I love having them around the house! I am hoping to add more to my home soon. I’m thinking a money tree and a spider plant might be in order. Though, if anyone has other suggestions, I am certainly open! Just please make sure they are pet-friendly and that you are pretty clear in the care needed, since I am still learning.

But wait! There’s more!

I not only dove into houseplants, but I am dabbling in a bit of gardening too!

If anyone knows our sales rep, Charlie, you know that he is quite the gardener. He has built himself a beautiful backyard garden!

I asked him a few weeks ago if it was too late to do a couple of pots of veggies. He said it wasn’t and he was nice enough to give me a few of his extra plants to get started so that I could give a little gardening a shot.

He gave me two cherry tomato plants, two oregano plants and two bell pepper plants which he refers to as ‘pizza pots.’ I put one of each in pots on my back patio and I’ve got to tell you, they are really coming along! The oregano is even starting to spread in the pot a bit! The peppers are just starting to make an appearance, but the cherry tomatoes are where it’s at! I have almost 50 little guys coming in and more flowering!

I found my first pepper and my first red tomato the other night and was so excited I could hardly contain myself. I know it probably doesn’t seem like much to an experienced gardener, but for someone who can kill a plant just by looking at it wrong, it was a big moment for me!

I have really high hopes for making the most of my little containers this year! I see lots of salsa in my future!

If things continue to go well this year, I am thinking I may even try my hand at a raised bed next year with a little more variety of veggies. Charlie assures me I can do it and that he’ll advise me along the way.

Again, if y’all have any plant suggestions, or gardening tips, please feel free to send them my way! I’ve always been somewhat terrible at keeping up with hobbies, but since gardening isn’t a yearlong activity, maybe I found one that will actually stick!
