Lycoming County’s $27,000 campaign for the support of the United Service Organizations will be launched here this evening with an 8 o’clock dinner meeting of the volunteer workers and an 8 o’clock public mass meeting in the Williamsport High School.
Kenneth Smith, of the National USO headquarters will be guest speaker at both assemblies.
Providing appropriate entertainment for the mass meeting will be both the Williamsport Consistory Choir and the Imperial Teteques Band of Baldwin II Commandery No. 22 Knights Templar. They will have a concert between 8 and 9 o’clock.
The dinner program is to be conducted in the Pine Street Methodist Church dining room. Councilman, Philip Shay, chairman of the county chapter of the USO, will preside and John E. Person, a state vice chairman of the organization in Pennsylvania, will introduce the guest speaker.
At the 8 o’clock meeting, which is open to the public without charge and of which no solicitation of funds will be made, Mayor Leo C. Williamson is to preside and will introduce Mr. Kenneth Smith.
It is expected that radio station WRAK will broadcast the program. Permission has been received from ASCAP for the use of selections being played by the Imperial Teteques Band.
Even before the county wide drive for $27,000 gets officially underway, the Lycoming Chapter has received contributions from interested residents and community organizations.
