No radio station had been rebroadcasting television programs in Williamsport, Frank O. Bowers, 350 Clayton Ave., said last night when asked about the suspension of John M. Vandling’s operator’s license for amateur radio station W3K31.
Mr.Vandling could not be reached for comment as he was in New York on business yesterday and is not expected to return until tomorrow.
Mr. Bowers said an application for a permit to operate a television relay station had been submitted to the FCC, but as yet no answer has been received from the commission.
He pointed out that some experiments were carried out with the possibility of bringing television to Williamsport. Mr. Vandling and Mr. Bowers had an appointment with a representative from the FCC several months ago how the experiments were to be carried out and results that were obtained.
“Under no circumstances could the experiments conducted be considered broadcasting,” Mr. Bowers said.
The commission said the suspension and revocation of the two licenses was because Mr. Vandling had participated in the picking up and rebroadcasting of television programs from WFIL in Philadelphia.
The order made it possible for the local man to request a hearing within 15 days in which case the order would be held in abeyance pending completion of proceedings.
