Joe E. Hume, 88, of Loyalsock Township, died January 19, 2020 at UPMC Susquehanna.
He was born May 9, 1931, in Anderson County, Kentucky, a son of the late Earl and Katherine (Perry) Hume.
Joe graduated from William & Mary University, where he was a star basketball player. In 1969, he and his wife, the late and former Carolyn B. Burt, moved to Williamsport and founded Data Papers, Inc., in Muncy, Keystone Business Forms (now KBF Print Technology), and Promotional Specialties. He was an avid golfer, a member of the Williamsport Country Club, where he was past president and was instrumental in the design of the new club house, and a member and past president of the Ross Club. He enjoyed manicuring his yard, trips to Myrtle Beach, and owned and flew his own plane.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bruce Hume.
Surviving is his son, Joe E., Jr. (Holly) Hume, of Cogan Station; a daughter, Terry (Tom) Hume-Milowicki, of Hockessin, Delaware; a brother, John (Brenda) Hume, of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Jacob (Melissa) Hume, Matthew Hume, Natalie Hume, Lindsay (Dan) Krivenki, and Brittany (Russell) Boone; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad Street, Montoursville, with Rev. John A. Brindger officiating. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery. Family and friends will be received from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.
