YWCA’s Hut of Hope Give Dignity to Those in Need

A new hand-crafted addition to the YWCA’s West Fourth Street location is helping those in need find dignity, hope and comfort. The YWCA’s Hut of Hope is located in front of the brick home of the YWCA, right at the sidewalk, so passersby in need have access to items likes gloves, toothpaste, deodorant and more.

“We understand how impactful personal hygiene and comfort can be to someone in need,” said Jernae Drummond, YWCA Liberty House Program Manager. “We wanted to make sure everyone in our community has access to necessary items that may be outside their budget – like soap, socks & feminine hygiene items.” The items in the hut will rotate based on the time of year, but anyone in need can help themselves to the items inside. “Our mission statement says that the YWCA dedicated to promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all – not just those in our programs. This Hut of Hope is one simple way we can support everyone.”

The hut itself is first of four – all graciously built and donated by J.B. Gibbons Construction and the pole was crafted and donated Guards Plus. The other huts will be placed in different parts of the community as specific locations are determined. “We are grateful for the generosity of J.B. Gibbons and Guards Plus as we work together to make sure everyone in our community has access to resources they need to take care of themselves and their families,” Drummond said.
