Mary Cecilia Grandy, 92

Mary Cecilia Grandy, 92, returned home to her heavenly Father on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019. A devote catholic, Mary was an active parishioner at St. Joseph the Worker Parish. Mary was born to the late Walter and Martha Eck in Collomsville, PA on December 21, 1926. She was the fifth oldest of fourteen children.

She married the love of her life, James A. Hendricks of Jersey Shore and traveled the world accompanying him throughout his 25-year military career. She has lived in or visited every state in the Union. An avid sportsman, Mary hunted bear and moose in Alaska, was a superb bowler, and loved to play pinochle with James’ sister, Irene and her husband Chuck Laubach, of Oval. She enjoyed taking bus trips with her best friends Anna and Ruthie.

After her first husband died, Mary later married John Grandy of Erie. John predeceased her. Mary’s employment career included U.S. Weather Service Observer while living in Alaska. After returning home to PA Mary worked at Lycoming College as Head of Housekeeping retiring with 20 years of service.

James and Mary adopted four children, Francis, of FL, James II of Alaska, Jill of PA and Eva a/k/a Evie also of PA. In turn, her children blessed her with 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

In addition to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; she is survived by her brothers: Walter V. and Bob and her sisters: Arlene, Jane and Pauline.

She is predeceased by her parents, two husbands, two brothers: Clarence and Phil and six sisters: Elizabeth, Kathleen, Helene, Bernadine, Sister Walter, and Jean.

There will be a time of visitation on Thursday, November 14, 2019 from 6-8 pm at Rearick-Carpenter Funeral Home, 1002 Allegheny Street, Jersey Shore. A funeral Mass will take place on Friday, November 15, 2019 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Bastress at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, it was Mary’s desire that memorial donations be made to the Lycoming County SPCA, 2805 Reach Road, Williamsport, PA 17701
