Russell Glenn Fisher of Mill Hall passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 29, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Born on December 27, 1922, he was the youngest child of the late Harry and Sara (Hollen) Fisher.
In 1945, he married the former Lois A. Shively of Laurelton. She passed away on June 23, 2005, just one week after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.
Russell served in the United States Navy on U.S.S. Sumpter during WWII and was involved in five major battles in the South Pacific.
He worked at Piper Aircraft for 38 years until their closing. He then enjoyed working on clocks and watches from his home.
Russell was a member of both the Pilgrim Holiness and Hillview Wesleyan Churches.
Along with his brothers, he enjoyed amateur geology, considered themselves to be “rock hounds.”
Russell was very creative, writing many poems and songs. He taught himself to play many instruments including the autoharp and various guitars and harmonicas which he often played in church.
Surviving are his children, Ardena “Dena” Gillin and Barry R. (Teri) Fisher, both of Mill Hall; his sister, Mary (Richard) Sementelli who will celebrate her 102 birthday in January; four grandchildren: Robert R. Gillin, Kathryn L. Gillin, Erica L. (Mike) Bischof and Andrea R. (Jason) Roupp; five great grandchildren: Miya Gillin, Noah Gillin, Tyler Bischof, Jonathan Bischof and Kylie Lozensky; and a step great granddaughter, Samantha Roupp.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Rev. Herbert (Mary) Fisher, Julia (Bruce) Barner, Helen (Simon) Nissley, Pearl (Harry) Heltman, Chester “Mike” (Evelyn) Fisher, Clara (Floyd) Chapman, Margaret (Frank) Barzona and Harris (Catherine) Fisher as well as his son-in-law, Robert “Bob” Gillin.
Russell will be very much missed by his family but is now in Heaven and reunited with his wife.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at Hillview Wesleyan Church, 1200 W. Fourth St., Lock Haven will Rev. Donald Grant officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.
Friends and family will be received at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions in Russell’s name may be made to Hillview Wesleyan Church.
