Williamsport Chamber Players Begin Their Inaugural Musical Season In October

Lycoming College has several fine musical bodies that are part of its cultural scene. They are about to add another.

This is the inaugural season of the Williamsport Chamber Players. Lycoming College sponsors the group and it is directed by William Ciabattari, Associate Professor and Music Department Chair.

The Williamsport Chamber Players Series brings together top local musicians who share a passion of performing small ensemble and chamber music. The series provides another classical music outlet to share with the community in a new, engaging format. Concertgoers will enjoy stunning musical performances paired with visual multimedia and captivating conversation.

“This WCP series is intended to grow the Classical music offerings in the community as well as to provide an opportunity for area professional musicians to perform great music that is often neglected,” Dr. William Ciabattari, director of the fledgling musical organization told Webb Weekly. “The format of the concerts is designed to engage the audience more by bringing the action to the edge of the CAC stage and dropping a screen behind. We will project HD images of the performers close up during the concert so that the audience can experience the action. We will also be providing context for the music with short lectures given by members of the group. For the first concert, our piano soloist and lecturer is Dr. Gary Boerckel.”

The series this year includes four concerts

The first concert in the series, ‘The Music of Poulenc,’ will be on Sunday, October 20th at 4 p.m. at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport.

The concert is described as: “Join us for the Williamsport Chamber Players inaugural concert and series opener featuring the works of Francis Poulenc. The concert will include Sonata for horn, trumpet, and trombone and Suite française. And Poulenc’s Aubade for piano and 18 instruments, will feature pianist Dr. Gary Boerckel.

Tickets are $20 general admission and can be purchased at the CAC Box Office or online at www.caclive.com

Future concerts for the season include ‘Glorious Serenades’ on January 29th at the CAC, ‘Transition Points: Instrumental Music for Two Voices’ on February 23rd at Mary Lindsay Welch Honors Hall, and ‘Sighs that Blow the Fire of Love: The Henry Purcell Primer’ on April 26th at the CAC. All at 4 p.m.
