Joanne Sneeder passed away gently to Heaven’s Gate on Aug. 19, 2019.
On June 7, 1936, was born and raised in Williamsport, to Peter and Artemis Golamis, the long-time owners of Sun Dry Cleaners.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Colonel William “Bill” H. Sneeder Sr. (USAF retired); two of her five siblings, Tony Golamis and Pauline Wood; three children and their spouses, Colonel William H. Sneeder Jr. (USAF retired) and his wife Jeanne, Dianna A. Sanders and her husband Walter “Sandy,” and Colonel Michael C. Sneeder (USAF retired) and his wife Alexandra; five grandchildren, Stephanie J. (Sanders) LoPresto; Walter âMacã M. Sanders V; Christopher J. Sneeder; Efstathios V. Sneeder; Constantine P. Sneeder; and many other relatives and friends scattered across the U.S., Greece and Australia.
In addition to her parents, a brother, Lois Golamis; and a sister, Mary Moss, both preceded her in death.
Joanne graduated from Williamsport High School in 1953 and Rider College, New Jersey, in 1956 with an associate in arts degree. After working as a medical secretary for the family practice of Dr. Garrison in Williamsport she married Bill who is from Millersburg in 1958. The two embarking on an Air Force career adventure with assignments across the U.S., Pacific and Europe all while raising a family. As the caring wife and mother, she was the iconic military spouse alongside Bill while both held a number of key leadership positions. Joanne still kept active in medical services during assignments in Hawaii and Berlin, Germany, and a long serving member of the USAF Officers’ Wives Club and the Greek Orthodox Church Philoptochos Society.
Joanne and Bill retired from the Air Force in 1988, to reside permanently in Williamsport. Joanne kept busy in the community and Holy Cross Orthodox Church while being the loving caregiver to her mother. Joanne enjoyed her later retirement years, from 2014 to present, with husband Bill in Charlotte, N.C., near their daughter and her family.
In loving memory, funeral services at Holy Cross Orthodox Church, will be held Tuesday, Aug. 27, with visitations beginning at 9 a.m. with services at 10 a.m.; internment to follow at Wildwood Cemetery.
