River Valley Transit Celebrates 50 Years of Public Transportation in Williamsport

River Valley Transit is celebrating 50 years of public transportation in the City of Williamsport and surrounding communities on August 8th and 9th, 2019. “On August 8, 1969, the City of Williamsport officially began operation of the buses under the newly created Williamsport Bureau of Transportation (WBT), having purchased the privately-operated Williamsport Bus Company with the help of grants from the federal Urban Mass Transportation Administration and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation,” said Bill Nichols, River Valley Transit General Manager.

To commemorate the milestone River Valley Transit will be offering free bus rides and Trolley Tours to the general public on August 8th all day long! In the Mid-Town Landing, located next to the Trade & Transit Centre II in downtown Williamsport, festivities will also include Beiter’s Home Center prize giveaways, 25¢ hot dogs between 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., free rides aboard a refurbished 1962 GMC bus, live radio remote 6:00-8:00 p.m. and ending with a movie on the outdoor giant screen at 8 pm with 25¢ hot dogs, other treats and fun activities.

Then, on Friday, August 9th, River Valley Transit is proud to present the Midtown Men at the Community Arts Center with tickets as low as $19.69, (1969 is the year Public Transit started in Williamsport!) The Midtown Men show reunites stars from the Original Broadway Cast of the smash hit musical, Jersey Boys. Launched in 2010 from their three-year rocket ride together bringing to life the sound story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, this Broadway breakout vocal sensation is widely celebrated for their signature renditions of the iconic hits of the 1960s. River Valley Transit has made this signature concert event possible with the exclusive help of local business sponsors including M&T Bank, Susquehanna Paper & Sanitary Supply, Community Arts Center, Kiwanis State Convention and The Liberty Group.
