149th Lycoming County Fair Takes Place July 10 to 20

Expanded activities in the Amelia Earhart Kids Fun Way, a one-day Country Music Festival and the usual array of motor-related events such as a Demolition Derby, tractor pulls and all kinds of other interesting free and paid entertainment will highlight this year’s 149th Lycoming County Fair at the fairgrounds in Hughesville from July 10 to 20.

The Earhart Fun Way will feature multiple events occurring every day of the Fair primarily in the evenings, such as a Dino-ROAR, which is an educational interactive dinosaur show. Pig races, pedal tractor pulls and frying pan throwing contests, knocker balls for the older kids, and a petting zoo with a wide variety of animals, such as goats, cows, camels, and water buffaloes. Also we will have a free stage which features music and other interactive performances specifically for the kids. We have added hayrides to this year’s Fair, which are fun for all ages. As a reminder, kids 12 and under are free because fair officials believe every kid should see the Fair.

The Country Music Festival will be occurring Friday, July 12 in the infield. It begins at 5:30 p.m. and will be featuring the Uptown Music Collective, Allie Colleen (6:30), Honey County (7:30), Kelleigh Bannen(8:30), and Ashley McBryde (9:40). Ashley was recently awarded New Female Artist of the Year by the Academy of Country Music Awards. VIP seating is $32.50, and standing room only tickets bought before July 9th are $15. After July 9th they increase to $20. Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit.

Here is a list of daily events at this year’s Fair.

Wednesday, July 10th- Is the free admission evening, gates open at 4:00 p.m. There will be harness racing on the track starting at 4, this is a free event, all are welcome to watch from the bleachers and grandstands.

Thursday, July 11th- Again, gates open at 4:30, Twilight Harness racing also at 4:30. This event is also free for all to watch. Fireworks will be set off at dusk (9:30 p.m.).

Friday, July 12th – As mentioned previously, this is the day of the Country Music Festival.

Saturday, July 13th- The Fair will be hosting the Lycoming County Fair Motorsports and Murray Motors Demo Derby Qualifiers with minivans and power wheels heat. The power wheels heat is a round for children that can bring their personal power wheels and try their hand at driving in a demolition derby. Tickets are $10 for the demos.

Sunday, July 14th – This year the Fair will remember a well-known member of the fair community by naming the day John Fritz of Sunset Ice Cream Day. Fair organizers ask all to wear your Sunset Ice Cream T-shirts to honor his memory. A Vesper Service will be offered at 4 p.m. for all interested. There will be another demolition derby this night, featuring the modified truck derby, figure 8 racing, and the youth derby. Again tickets for the demos are $10, and the demos start at 60 p.m.

Monday, July 15th – Military Appreciation Day, all current and former military members can get into the Fair for free with military identification. Another night of demolition derbies featuring the classes of Mini Monday Madness, Team Derby, and Power Puff Demo.

Tuesday, July 16th – Youth day, which includes multiple events throughout the Fair targeted for the involvement of kids. Including the School Days Program beginning at 10 a.m. at the grandstands. This is a free program involving multiple games such as races and water balloon tosses to get the little ones involved. There is also a Best School Talent Challenge where kids of all ages can compete in a talent show. It is free to participate or watch. Wednesday, July 17th – Senior Citizens day, all over the age of 65 will receive free admission with a valid ID. For entertainment, there will be the 7th annual draft horse pull at 5 p.m. Admission to this event is free, it will be located at the grandstand.

Thursday, July 18th – “Tommy Hendrick’s Memorial” full-size championship demo derby with figure 8 racing will occur at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for grandstand and bleachers.

Friday, July 19th Dale Wheeland Memorial Tractor Pull beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10.

Saturday, July 20th –The Fair’s last night! 10th annual Ground Shaker Transport 4×4 Gas and Diesel Truck Pull. It starts at 2 p.m., with $10 tickets.

Other events they have every day throughout the fairgrounds include live free music at multiple stages, the exhibits people have brought in including handmade crafts such as quilts, photos, paintings, canned foods, Pennsylvania preferred chocolate brownie, apple pie, and angel food contests, small and large flowers, homegrown vegetables, clothing made by hand, and educational exhibits from local groups such as 4-Hs, boy scouts and girl scouts, schools, and daycares. As always they will have many animals brought by local 4-Her’s and farmers alike for the purpose of education and often the chance for kids to pet the animals. They will have dairy and beef cattle, rabbits, multiple breeds of goats, lambs, chickens, pigs, and of course horses. Sunshine Shows is the company that brings many rides to the Fair as well as carnival games.
