A team of linemen from the Susquehanna Service Center in Montoursville volunteered their time to erect an osprey platform along the Loyalsock Creek in Lycoming County. This is the seventh platform in PPL service territory and the first one in the Central Susquehanna region. Lycoming College owns the land and approached PPL asking if PPL could help raise the platform and supply the 60-foot pole. Tracie Witter, regional affairs director for PPL Electric Utilities says, “This initiative was an ideal fit for PPL; providing good nesting areas away from power lines benefits the environment and also helps PPL reduce the risk of power outages.” The College plans to monitor the platform and will visit the site in an Ornithology course during their May term. The team who volunteered their time included Dave Bender, Mike Kauffman, John Marquette, Chad Waltman, Jesse Showers and Eric Beaver. Representing the college were Mel Zimmerman, retired Biology professor and Harry Stackhouse who built the nesting platform, which was attached to the pole.
