Robert L. “Bob” Gillin, Jr., 70, of Mill Hall passed away at home on Sunday, March 24, 2019.
Born on May 7, 1948 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Robert and Kathryn Gillen.
With his family, Bob lived in Silver Spring, Maryland. There, he not only graduated from Blair High School in 1965 but also met his wife, Ardena Gillin.
After he and Dena married in Rockville, Maryland, they moved to Mill Hall where he fell in love with the area and gained many friends and acquaintances.
Bob was employed briefly at R.K. Griffin Chair Factory in 1973 and then at Ridge Homes in Milesburg until 1982. He then attended Penn College, graduating in 1985 with a degree in accounting and real estate. In 1985 he began working for International Paper in Lock Haven until their closing. Bob then worked at the Coca-Cola Plant in Milesburg until retiring in 2008 due to disability.
When younger, Bob became a Boy Scout and worked his way up to an Eagle Scout. There he learned much about the outdoors and later taught his children the joy of camping and fishing as well as the importance of safety when hunting with guns.
Bob loved fishing, hunting and playing Poker with his friends at the 40&8 Club. Along with his wife, Dena, he enjoyed riding his Gold Wing motorcycle over the roads of Pennsylvania. Bob also loved playing his guitar, and after attending Woodstock, his passion for music never ceased.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, Dena Gillin, he is survived by his two children, Robert Russell Gillin and Kathryn L. Gillin, both of Mill Hall; two grandchildren, Miya Clair and Noah Cooper Gillen; his younger sister, Alice (Steve) Gordon of Mt. Airy, MD; his younger brother, Bruce (Pat) Gillin of Gettysburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Above all else, Bob will be loved, cherished and remembered by so many including his childhood friends who to this day have always kept in touch.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 12 Noon at Hillview Wesleyan Church, 1200 W. 4th St., Lock Haven with Rev. Donald Grant officiating.
