Barbara Joan Fowler, 87, of 1704 Pond Road, Pennsdale, went to be with her Heavenly Father, on February 19, 2019, at AristaCare at Loyalsock.
Born March 30, 1931, Barbara was the daughter of the late Max and Lalia Vickery. She attended Ralston High School and graduated from the Williamsport Hospital School of Nursing in 1952, where she later became a faculty instructor for aspiring nurses. In a yearbook dedication her students wrote, “Each of us shall always try to carry with us in life her ideals of kindness, generosity, and unselfishness”. Barbara had a passion for Obstetrics and worked in the Labor and Delivery unit at Divine Providence Hospital where she helped to welcome many lives into the world.
Barbara married Virgil Richard Fowler on July 14, 1956 and was married for 57 years before his passing. Together they enjoyed traveling the world, riding motorcycles, and competitive horseback trail riding. She was a devoted wife, mother, Nana, and great grandmother. She lived out her faith in many ways; attending Bible Study Fellowship, assisting with Vacation Bible School, and volunteering at Mother’s Time Out to name a few. Barbara is predeceased by her husband, Virgil and sister, Joyce Vickery.
Surviving are three sisters, Connie Livingston, Deanna Whitford, Janice Vickery Chute-Zepka (husband, Jack); children, Virgil Richard Fowler II and Katherine Gleason (husband, Irv); grandchildren, Virgil Richard Fowler III (wife, Rachael), Jacob Gleason (wife, Kari), Katelyn Fowler, Joshua Gleason, Jillian Harmon (husband, Chase), Devon Williams, Ashlynn Fowler; great-grandchildren Phoebe Fowler, Kamdyn Gleason, and James Gleason, as well as nieces and nephews.
A private family burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2019, in the Pennsdale Cemetery. An open Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 25, 2019, at Faith United Methodist Church, 700 Fairview Drive, Montoursville.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the many people that cared for Barb both at her home and at AristaCare at Loyalsock.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, Montoursville.
