G. Howard Tompkins, 88, of Williamsport, died peacefully Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Williamsport Home.
Born June 14, 1930 in Williamsport, he was a son of Harry and Ethel (Alexander) Tompkins.
Howard was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service to his country. He retired from Penn-Dot. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Parish and a member of the former Ascension Church. Howard was a member of the LeRoy O. Buck Post #7863 VFW, DuBoistown. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of Slacks Run Hunting Club. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards “with his buds” and was a volunteer at the Community Arts Center and part of the Newberry Lions Club for many years.
Surviving are his wife Mary Lou (Ryder) Tompkins whom he married December 15, 1951, three children Thomas L. Tompkins (Darlena) of Linden, Mary Anne Kilgus (Larry) of South Williamsport, and Timothy F. Tompkins (Robin) of Cogan Station, a daughter-in-law Darlene Tompkins, of Hagerstown, MD, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and a great great grandson.
He was preceded in death by a son Howard Christopher Tompkins in 2015 and a brother Ray Tompkins.
A visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Sanders Mortuary 821 Diamond St. Williamsport. A graveside service will be held 12 noon at Wildwood Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming County.
