William D. “Bill” Dauber, 96

William D. “Bill” Dauber, 96, of Williamsport, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Valley View Nursing Center.

Born December 17, 1921 on the family farm in Perryville, he was a son of the late Jacob W. and Stella M. Hornberger Dauber.

Bill was a graduate of Williamsport High School. He retired from AVCO after more than 40 years of service.

Bill served in the Old Lycoming Township Fire Company for 66 years in many capacities. He first joined the company in 1952, became a life member in 1967, and became the first 50 year member in 2002. He served as Trustee from 1954 to 1962, 1981, and from 1984 to 1986. Bill was the Fire Chief from 1959 to 1965, 1970 to 1972 and 1975 to 1978 during which the Hurricane Agnes Flood and Sweeley Ave. gas explosion took place. He was assistant Chief from 1957 to 1958 and 1967 to 1969. Bill served on the Board of Directors from 1969 to 1977 and from 1981 to 2008 and was the 4th company member to be awarded the Distinguished Service Award which he received in 1984.

Bill served on the Old Lycoming Township Board of Elections for 50 years, the Williamsport School Board for 10 years and was a life member and president of the Good Will Hunting Club.
Bill is survived by his children; H. Chip Dauber of Ithaca, NY and Kathie A. Saar of Williamsport; grandchildren, Stacy Saar of Williamsport, Brig Dauber of CA, and Mac Dauber of Boston; a special nephew and hunting buddy, Mike Dauber.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Helen L. Dauber; siblings, George Dauber, Grace Roupp, Helen Eaton, LaVerne “Shine” Dauber and Pearl Dickey and son in law, David J. Saar.
A memorial service to honor the life of Bill will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the William D. Dauber Social Hall at Old Lycoming Township Fire Company, 1600 Dewey Ave. Williamsport. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until the time of service. Interment will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park.
