Local Legislators to Host Annual “Senior Expo” Sept. 13

Area senior citizens, their family members and caregivers are invited to the annual Senior Expo hosted by state Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Bradford/Lycoming/Sullivan/Susquehanna/Union) and state Rep. Garth Everett (R-Lycoming/Union) on Thursday, Sept. 13.

The free event will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lycoming Valley Baptist Church, 4980 Lycoming Mall Drive in Montoursville.

“The amount of information out there for our older residents can be overwhelming,” Yaw said. “This free expo brings it all under one roof so our area senior citizens and their caregivers can ask questions and get answers on the spot.”

The expo will feature dozens of vendors sharing information about health care, insurance, nutrition and exercise, financial planning, government services and more. Health screenings will also be offered.

“This is a great opportunity for senior citizens and those who care for them to find a lot of helpful information about programs and services to benefit them in one convenient location,” Everett said. “I am always pleased to join with Sen. Yaw in hosting this event and encourage area seniors to join us.”

New this year is a Senior Crime Prevention Seminar hosted by the state attorney general’s office to help seniors protect themselves against scams. The seminar will be held at 10:30 a.m. People who are interested in attending the seminar should register by calling Everett’s office at 570-327-2084.

Document shredding, which helps protect against identity theft, will be provided by North Central Sight Services from 9:30 a.m. to noon. A MedReturn drop box, which helps keep unused or expired medications out of the wrong hands, will again be provided by the Lycoming County Sheriff’s office. Finally, Safe Kids Pennsylvania will be collecting used or unwanted child safety seats from 9:30-11:30 a.m. A gift certificate will be given for each safety seat that is collected.
