John D. Horn, 77, of Salladasburg, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at his home. Born Sept. 20, 1940, he was the son of Charles F. and Betty (Davis) Horn.
John lived his entire life in the quaint community area of Salladasburg and has resided for 50 years in the beautiful home he and his wife built in 1968.
He graduated from Jersey Shore High School in 1959 and in 1962 he joined the Army serving during the Vietnam War era until 1964.
On April 10, 1965, he married his sweetheart, the former Jean Susan Heyd; they were married for over 36 years until her passing on Nov. 29, 2001.
John worked construction, Piper Air Craft and was a self-employed owner/manager of Creekside Mobile Home Park along Route 287 in Salladasburg for the past 40 years.
He was a member of the Salladasburg United Methodist Church.
John liked watching old western movies. His hobbies included hunting and traveling. He had the opportunity to visit Africa a couple of times and enjoyed exploring the United States with his family.
John is survived by two daughters, Jennifer S. (Scott Ingraham) and Janalyn E. Horn, both of Salladasburg; three grandsons, Corey D., Cole D. and Seth L. Ingraham; and one granddaughter, Savanna M. Ross. He is also survived by one brother, Charles “Chick” Horn, of Salladasburg; and one sister, Nancy Horn Fillman, of Salladasburg.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Ellery Horn and one sister, Nina Horn Viedeffer.
A memorial service is planned for Aug. 23, 2018, at 7 p.m. at the Salladasburg United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Brophy officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 p.m. at the church.
