Comic Con Comes to Town

This Sunday superheroes and evil villains bent of mayhem will overtake the Genetti Hotel’s ballroom for the second annual Williamsport Comic-Con.

If you think comic cons, short for a comic convention, are strictly about nerdy geeks and their obsession with old comic books once sold at drug stores, think again.

“If you’ve never been to an event like this, you’ll be surprised at everything the show has to offer,” said Joe Figured, a comic expert, and the show’s promoter.

For this year’s show, an impressive roster of artists, illustrators, and writers will be on hand to celebrate the multifaceted world of comics.

And don’t be shocked if you encounter an Imperial Stormtrooper or a masked avenger checking out the local comic scene.

“It’s not uncommon for fans to dress-up as their favorite character or superhero. These shows are a great chance for fans to interact with others and meet some of the talented people that work in this genre,” said Figured.

For this year’s show, a few of the comic professionals will include Ron Marz, a talented writer that has worked for several of the major production studios including a long stint with Marvel’s “Silver Surfer”, artist Brett Breeding, freelance comic creator Rob Robbins, and the multi-talented Jared Brown.

“We have a great and varied group of artists that worked in many different areas of production for the top names like Marvel and DC Comics,” he said. “We’ll also have Mr. Lobo, host of ‘Cinema Insomnia’ and local comic freelancer Rin Venieris.”

There will also be free comics, giveaways, special activities for the kiddos, vendors selling a mix of comic related items and the chance to maybe discover that elusive comic, figure, poster or “OMG” item you’ve longed to own.

“What’s great about a show like this is the interaction with other fans that are very enthusiastic and fun to be around,” Figured said.

Tickets for the show are $10, children five and under are admitted free.
