Various church organizations and individuals have already responded to the urgent appeal of local citizens for the Russian Relief Inc. giving useable clothing for Russian civilian needs and medical supplies and watches for the medical services of the Soviet Union, Bruce Calder, chairman of the local group, said after an organizational meeting at the Lycoming Hotel Monday night.

More administrative workers for the local group, are needed however, it was emphasized along with the fact that the organization is still seeking a centrally located storage room for contributions until a storage plane is arranged, the committee agreed persons wishing to donate to the civilian needs of Russia can contact the Lycoming Community Chest office to arrange for a subsequent pick up.

Women’s auxiliaries from a number of churches have signified their willingness to collect supplies, sort, pack, and prepare for shipment to a central warehouse in New York City.

Financial needs of the Russian War Relief Inc. have been met by Lycoming County residents through their contributions to the Community and War Chest, the committee was informed and the drive opened Monday entails no fund contributions.

“The common front is now on the Donets, before Smolensk and in the Caucasus,” the chairman told the drive workers, “and our efforts to help the Russian people with clothing and medical supplies we are seeking, will help safeguard that front and revert to actual aid for countless American boys.”
