Things to Do: Spring Spectacular!

The calendar claims that spring starts this week. Sitting here on the Friday before and looking at the long-range forecast, Mother Nature would apparently beg to differ. It’s nice that it isn’t dark, or almost dark when I get home from work though, so I’ve got that going for me.

For arguments sake, we are just going to pretend spring is in full force, because it is time for the spring edition of all the fun things to do in the area! This is really your fault, people. I wouldn’t keep doing these lists if I didn’t keep hearing people say that there’s nothing to do around here.

Au contraire mon ami! There is always plenty to do around the area. And I am even going to save you the time of having to look for them!

So, without further ado…

The Festival Audition Concert for the Billtown Blues is this Sunday at the Genetti, which will lead to a great Billtown Blues Festival this summer. You can get all the details on the bands that are participating starting on page 24.

Warmer weather also brings people back out for the Grower’s Market downtown on Saturday, and hopefully spring will be in full force for April’s First Friday. The Montour Farm Market also opens for the season on Thursday. They are located on Rt. 44 between Turbotville and McEwensville.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 p.m. Muncy High School will be performing High School Musical.

Want to get some exercise for you and your pup? Head to Milton on Sunday for the Kohl’s Stony Hill Tree Farm Dog Bone Easter Egg Hunt! It starts at 1:00 p.m.

If the weather isn’t great, consider packing up the kids and heading to the James V. Brown Library. Not only is reading always a good thing, but they also have Pop-Up Play on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Lycoming County Pop-Up Play’s mission is to partner with the community to bring children from all neighborhoods a safe and organic play space that enables healthy development, creativity, collaboration, and that sparks an overall sense of wonder.

If you like dodge ball and supporting animals, the Lock Haven YMCA is hosting an adult, co-ed dodge ball tournament that benefits the Y and the Clinton County SPCA. Remember, “If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.”

Spring fever is real! Get the kids out of the house on March 28th at 11:30 a.m. Head over the mountain to Reptiland for a reptile-related reading! Get comfy and cozy in the Island Giants building — the warmest place in the zoo — while their zookeeper shares a story and a special animal encounter!

Did you miss your prom, or want to experience it again? I’ve got two upcoming opportunities for you. First up is the Adult Prom. Everything you remember about your prom, but with booze! The Adult Prom benefits Cystic Fibrosis and all the details can be found on page 21.

Next up is the Mom Prom. That is coming up on April 14th, at the Genetti and benefits Lifting Little Lives. We’ll have all the details in a future issue.

Need more?

OK then. You can also get out of the house, and enjoy nature by joining the Lycoming Audubon Society on a Bird Walk on Saturday on the Susquehanna Riverwalk. This is an easy walking event to look for waterfowl, songbirds, and raptors such as bald eagles and peregrine falcons. Loaner binoculars are available. You can meet them on the dike by the recycling center in South Williamsport at 9:00 a.m.

There is also plenty of karaoke, trivia and open mics happening weekly around the area. Check out our Arts and Entertainment calendar on page 42 for all the listings.

And, of course, as always, there are a plethora of amazingly talented local bands playing all over the Susquehanna Valley. From rock to country to blues, you can find something to spark your interest within a reasonable driving distance.

So there ya go! All of the things to do!

And, if all else fails…there’s a new season of Jessica Jones on Netflix …
