Richard W. “Dick” Merrifield, Sr., 94, of McElhattan passed away Monday, August 27, 2018 at Manor Care, Jersey Shore.

Born December 27, 1923 in Clearfield, he was the son of the late Clifford and Effie Hilton Merrifield.

On June 23, 1948 he married the love of his life, the former Doris Newberry, with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage.

Richard enjoyed anything related to automobiles and served as a mechanic at his garage, Little Dick’s Auto Clinic.

He attended Crossroads Community Church, Jersey Shore.

In addition to his wife, Doris Merrifield of McElhattan, he is survived by two children, Myra Spangler of Lock Haven and Richard (Aleada) Merrifield, Jr. of Avis; three brothers: Willis Merrifield of Avis, Terry (Joan) Merrifield of Lewisburg and Danny Merrifield of California; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and four great, great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Danny F. Merrifield in 2001 and a brother, Clifford Merrifield, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington with Pastor John Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Park, McElhattan.

Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m.
