Philip R. Boob, Sr., 80, of Montoursville, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2020, at Valley View Nursing and Rehab Facility, with his family by his side.
Born in Salona, Pennsylvania on February 24, 1940, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Margaret Barner-Boob. Phil is survived by one brother, Robert (Coyla) Boob, Jr. of Vero Beach Florida.
Phil graduated from Sugar Valley High School in 1958 where his hobbies included cars, model airplanes, music, and sports. After high school he joined the Air Force Reserves and was assigned to 112th Aircraft Control and Warring Flight of the PA Air National Guard, with a tour in Germany during the cold war.
Following High School Phil married his childhood sweetheart Beverly J. Monk-Boob, who predeceased him in 1994. He and Beverly were Married for 36 years and enjoyed the opportunities of traveling to many destinations including air shows in Oshkosh and Paris. One of his fondest memories was when this afforded Beverly the opportunity to fly via the Concord and sit and converse with Jacques Cousteau. Phil and Beverly were the proud parents of two surviving children Philip (Annette) Boob, Jr. and Pamela (Roger) Boob-Smith. He is also survived by stepdaughters Jennifer (Raymond) Harvey-Crisci and Julie (Kaan) Harvey-Esgun. He was predeceased by a daughter-in- law Lori A. Metzger and a stepson Eddie Harvey.
Phil began his lifelong career in aviation at Air motive, Corp in Lock Haven. He then advanced to an Executive sales position at Piper Aircraft in Lock Haven and Vero Beach. He and Beverly returned to Pennsylvania in 1984 where he served as President of Textron-Lycoming Division from 1984 until 1997. He loved his work and provided an impeccable work ethic to family and colleagues. Phil’s motto was- “if something is worth doing, it is worth doing right”. He was one of the lucky ones to work in a field that he loved and fueled his flying addiction. He learned to fly as a young man and would frequently take his family and friends for a spin around the local valley’s, as well as back and forth to Vero Beach. He always enjoyed opportunities to meet people at each stop along the way and entertain them with a story or a quick-witted joke. A skill that he learned in high school, as he was known for his standup comedy, during school assemblies.
On June 24, 2000 Philip married his second- half of life- sweetheart Virginia “Ginny” Sorgen- Boob, who survives. They were married for 20 years enjoying retirement life and living between Pennsylvania and Vero Beach. Phil and Ginny enjoyed flying in his Comanche, visiting children and grandchildren.
He was Poppy to his grandchildren, who loved and admired his wisdom and sense of humor, and the one they knew they could convince to buy them Ice Cream. Phil became the flying babysitter with the birth of his first grandson. He would “rock the wings” to signal to us on the ground that things were OK, as he flew them off for a visit. His grandchildren include Nathan (Laura) Metzger; Caitlin (Ryan) Metzger-Lavrusky; Erick Spong; Sophia (Taylor) Spong; Emre Esgun; Raymond Crisci; Kaya Esgun, Gianna Crisci and great-grandsons Jase Lavrusky, Tucker Lavrusky and Jackson Metzger. He was predeceased by a grandson, Nicholas Boob.
Phil served on several local organizations, including the Williamsport Airport Board, the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation Board and the Foundation Executive Committee. He was a member of the Quite Birdmen and the First United Methodist Church of Muncy, PA.
A memorial graveside service for immediate family will be held at Swissdale Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. Officiating will be a family friend, Rev Richard Barner.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony, outdoor event, will be held in late spring. An announcement with details will be posted in the spring.
