Harold L. “Big Lou” Brungard, Jr., 74, of Mill Hall, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College.

He was born in Lock Haven on October 1, 1944, the son of the late Harold L. and Carol Ann Williams Brungard, Sr.

Lou was a 1962 graduate of Bald Eagle Nittany High School and a 1964 graduate of the Thaddeus Stevens Trade School.

In 1969, he married the former Carol Ann Williams, whom survives.

Lou retired after 35 years of service as a Project Coordinator at the Penn State University Office of Physical Plant. Prior to that employment, he served for a short time as a police officer for Mill Hall Borough.

He was a member of the Evangelical United Lutheran Church of Lock Haven and had attended the Bald Eagle Presbyterian Church of Mill Hall in his later years.

Big Lou was a Life Member of the Mill Hall Fire Department and a past member of the Bald Eagle Ridge Runner Camping Club and Nittany Antique Machinery Association. In conjunction with his late father and his wife, Lou was instrumental in the founding of the Friends of Mill Hall Hall Community Pool group which constructed and oversaw operations of the pool.

He enjoyed camping and traveling with his family and friends and was a loyal Penn State Football tailgater.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Harold L. “Lou” (Tracie) Brungard, III and Matthew W. (Jennifer) Brungard, both of Bellefonte; a sister, Margaret “Peg” Duck of Mill Hall; and three grandchildren, Kurtis, Gannon and Kamdyn Brungard.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11a.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745 with Rev. Alex Dyakiw officiating.

Friends and family will be received for a viewing on Sunday evening from 6p.m. to 8p.m. and Monday from 10a.m. until the time of the service.

Private burial will be held at Centre Community Memorial Park, State College.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Centre Crest to assist in the construction of their building.
