Dorothy J. (Bitler) Whitmoyer, 84, of Unityville, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Valley View Rehab & Nursing, Montoursville.

Born June 17, 1939, in Millville, she was a daughter of Mark and Florence (Rider) Bitler. Dorothy married Warren L. Whitmoyer on September 6, 1959. They celebrated 61 years of marriage until his passing.

Dorothy was a graduate of Hughesville High School, class of 1957. She was employed as the Municipal Secretary/Treasurer and Building Permit Supervisor for Jordan Township from 1972 to 2011. She was an original member of the East Lycoming Recreational Authority (Lime Bluff Park) starting in 1999. Dorothy was a life member at St. John Lutheran Church, Unityville, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and Youth Group Leader. Dorothy was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and dining out with family and friends.

Dorothy is survived by two daughters, Holly (Michael) Opsomer of Hughesville, and Kelly (Paul) Makowski of Grovetown, GA; a son, Brian Whitmoyer of Unityville; nine grandchildren, Christopher (Kristin) Opsomer, Alison (Scott) Reese, Victoria Makowski, Megan Makowski, Mark Whitmoyer, Paul Whitmoyer, Joanne Makowski, Rebecca Makowski, Rachel Makowski; three great-granddaughters, Evelyn, Audrey, and Violet Opsomer; two sisters, Janet Snyder of Muncy, and Patricia (Thomas) Lewis of Orangeville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Dallas Bitler.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2024, at McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, Hughesville, 557 E. Water St., with Rev. James Girven officiating.
