Winter Weather

Safe Kids PA, Lycoming County Partner would like to remind you, if winter weather is forecast, eliminate all unnecessary travel. This will keep you and your family safe and allow PennDOT and municipalities to more easily perform winter duties.

However, if you must travel, make sure you pack a winter weather emergency kit in your vehicle. Include such items as:

– Warm clothing and gloves for all occupants
– A blanket
– Ice scraper
– Sand or kitty litter for traction
– Cell phone and charger
– Flashlight
– Jumper cables
– Small shovel
– First aid kit
– Water and non-perishable foods.

Also consider what your family and children may need, like extra diapers and formula, medicines or pet supplies.
Know Before You Go: Be sure to check road conditions by using 511PA before heading out.

When traveling in inclement weather, make sure your headlights are on, increase your following distance, and allow your self extra time to arrive at your destination safely. Avoid making sudden stops and starts, and do not engage cruise control in inclement weather.

This message is brought to you by Safe Kids PA, Lycoming County Partner and the Lycoming County Health Improvement Coalition.
