Lycoming County Historical Society to Present a History of Muncy and the Surrounding Area

The Lycoming County Historical Society will continue its 2017 Lecture Series on Thursday, November 9, at a Coffee Hour held at 10 a.m. in the Community Room of its Taber Museum. The guest speakers will be David Richards and Matthew Stackhouse who will base the talk on their recent publication From a Bygone Era: Views of the Muncy Valley Then & Now. The lecture is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Richards and Stackhouse will deliver a history of Muncy by presenting photographs from 1905-1920 and contrasting them with present-day photographs of the same subject. The photographs feature Muncy buildings, industry, railroads, churches, and residential scenes, along with images from the surrounding Hughesville area.

Richards, an alumnus of Lycoming College, currently works as a licensed battlefield guide at Gettysburg National Military Park. Stackhouse, also a Lycoming College alumnus, is passionate about visiting historical areas and collecting items of local significance.

The Lecture Series will conclude in December with an appearance by the ‘Senior Horizons’, a musical group consisting of ‘mature’ musicians. For further information regarding programming at the museum, please consult the website http://www.tabermuseum.org or telephone the museum at 570.326.3326. The museum is located at 858 West Fourth Street, Williamsport. There is ample parking behind the museum or on the street.
