Joseph W. Coup, Jr., 83, of Williamsport, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at Edenbrook North.
He was the beloved husband of Barbara T. (Thrash) Coup, with whom he shared 33 years of marriage.
Born May 6, 1943 in Williamsport, Joe was the son of the late Dorothy (Scaife) and Joseph W. Coup, Sr.
He was a 1961 graduate of Williamsport High School then went on to earn his degree from Williamsport Technical Institute while taking courses at Penn State.
Joe worked in the engineering department at Metal Mex in Lewistown and later Lunaire in Williamsport until he retired.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He also spent many years playing softball, serving as both a pitcher and first baseman in men’s and church leagues.
A faithful member of First Church in Williamsport since 1992, Joe was involved in the men’s group and, alongside his wife, Barb, devoted more than 17 years to a church ministry that provided loving care for pets while their owners were traveling or receiving medical care.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Coup is survived by his children, David Coup of Williamsport, Jill Reamsnyder (Marc) of Williamsport, Marie Anderson (Christopher) of Muncy, Patricia Reeser (Steven) of Linden, and Aimee Haag (Jeffrey) of Williamsport; nine grandchildren, Kasi Martin (David), Alexis Schurk (Holly), Michael Reamsnyder, Kyle Anderson (MacKenzie), Rebekah Reamsnyder (Dylan Iseley), Jessica Reeser, Austin Haag, Erika Haag, and Nicholas Reeser; four great-grandchildren, Harlee, Edyn, Sukanya, and Grayson; and three sisters, Judy Coup, Ginny Lee Eck, and Reba Coup.
A service to honor the life of Joe will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, June 11th at Sanders Mortuary, 821 Diamond Street, Williamsport, where a visitation will take place from 12 noon until the time of the service.
Burial to follow in Barbours Cemetery.
