Kenneth “Ken” D. Ettinger, a man whose life was vibrant and full of adventure, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2024, at UPMC Williamsport. Born on September 30, 1951, in Lancaster, Ken lived a life that spanned 73 remarkable years, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Ken’s journey through life was as diverse as it was inspiring. He spent 15 years as a truck driver, navigating the open roads with a spirit of freedom and exploration. His career path then led him to serve as a Probation Officer in Nevada, a Security Officer, and ultimately, a Preacher for nine years, spreading faith and hope across Florida, Nevada, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Ken’s deep commitment to his faith was evident through his membership in the United Church of Christ and his attainment of a Master’s degree in divinity.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Ken was a devoted father and grandfather, a protective presence, and a security blanket for his family. Though he could be stubborn, his humor and laughter were infectious, bringing joy to those around him. Ken had a passion for music, skillfully playing the guitar, organ, and piano, and he was an animal lover, especially his dogs. His love for Harley motorcycles and Ford Mustangs helped him to connect with his fiance, Naomi.
Ken is preceded in death by his loving parents, Lisle Kenneth and Mazie Louise (Doerr) Ettinger. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his surviving family: two daughters, Kimberly Goss (Dustin) of Emporium; and Cortnie McHenry (Benjamin) of Catawissa; two sons, Tyler Perkins (Tiffany) of Salt Lake City, UT; and Brenden Ettinger (Kelli) of Las Vegas, NV; cherished grandchildren Noland, Lyndon Goss, Chloe, Corbin Perkins, Easton, and Stella Ettinger; and bonus grandchildren, Colton and Cullen Goss. Also mourning his loss are his fiancée and life partner, Naomi Miller of South Williamsport; his bonus daughter, Amanda Snyder (Jarred); and several cousins.
A celebration of Ken’s life will be announced at a later date. The family suggests that donations be made in Ken’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at http://www.stjude.org/donate or the Lycoming County SPCA at http://www.lycomingspca.org/donate/.
