Nieme Lamont Williams, 12

Nieme Lamont Williams, 12, of Williamsport, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, April 16, 2023, at his home. He was born in Williamsport on Dec. 2, 2010 to Jeffery Rawls, of Philadelphia, and the late Tayana Williams.

Nieme was member of the Islamic Centre in Williamsport. He was an excellent athlete, and played for both Firetree Youth Football League, and Williamsport Millionaire Basketball. Nieme was very bright and intelligent, earning straight A’s in school.

He is survived by his maternal grandparents, Denise Williams and Fred Johnson, of Williamsport; paternal grandmother, Jacqueline Spencer, of Philadelphia; a brother, Faaz-Suaad Rawls, and a sister, Aliya Hyatt Rawls, both of Williamsport; eight uncles, Demetrius and Raymond Brown, La-Quay, David and Steven Williams, Timothy Kelly, and Barry and James Mansfield; six aunts, Jovella Battla, Munirah Wilson, Chereese Brown, Jacqueline Spencer, Movita Grandison, and Kaneesha Williams; and a whole host of cousins, friends, and teammates.

In addition to his mother, Tayana, Nieme is preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, Jeffery Rawls Sr.; maternal grandfather, Timothy Kelly; and paternal great-grandmother, Mae Rawls.

Janazah prayer will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at approximately 1:45 p.m. at Williamsport Islamic Centre, 322 Locust Street, Williamsport, with Troy Zafir Purnell officiating. Interment will follow in Wildwood Cemetery.
