Need to Get Out

I gotta tell you, this is a rough time of year. The weather isn’t great, while the days are technically getting longer, it is still getting dark super early. We are in that odd, post-holiday lull and it is easy to fall into a bit of a sad state.
The best solution for this is to get out of the house! We always have stuff to do listed on our calendars, but here are a few other ways to get out of the house this week and shake off the winter blues.
Thursday night kicks off with Ron White at the CAC. I’m guessing this show is probably pretty close to sold out, so be sure to check on tickets before you hit the box office. Ron White is really funny, but remember he is for mature audiences so leave the kiddos at home for this one.
If you are looking to take the kids out for some fun, try FlyWorld. They have a great package that includes jump passes, soda and pizza on Thursdays and Fridays for four people.
Also on Thursday and Friday local vocalists will sing the haunting "Little Match Girl Passion" to raise awareness of homelessness in the Williamsport area. The concerts feature David Lang’s Pulitzer-Prize winning musical work based on the classic tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The first concert will be performed by the professional vocal ensemble, Bricolage, in collaboration with the Williamsport High School choir on Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Williamsport Area High School. Admission is free. The second concert will be performed by Bricolage on Jan. 20 at 8 p.m. in Pennington Lounge on the first floor of Wendle Hall on the Lycoming College campus. Suggested admission donation $10.
Friday night brings the Keystone Ska Exchange to the Valley in South Williamsport. They hit the stage at 9 p.m.
Starting Friday night and running through the weekend, the Community Theater League has performances of The Elves and the Shoemaker. They have performances Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.
There is a singles dance at the Warrior Run Social Hall Friday night at 7 p.m.
If you are feeling outdoorsy on Saturday morning, there is an ice fishing derby at Hills Creek State Park. Start time is 7 a.m. and there is a $10 entry fee.
If you are feeling less than outdoorsy, there is an open house at the Clinton Central Model Railroad. That starts at 10 a.m. Admission is free and they are located at 15 Logan Ave., in Castanea.
Saturday night brings lots of entertainment including The Billtown Giants at the Stonehouse at 9 p.m. Indigo & Heath are also playing Saturday night at 9 p.m. They are over at Barrel 135.
You can also check out Studio 570 in the Pajama Factory. Williamsport’s newest theater group will be performing their second concert in their Cabaret Series Saturday at 8 p.m.
There is also a Potluck Dance being sponsored by the Montoursville Rotary Saturday night at 7 p.m. in the Divine Providence Hospital Auditorium.
I’m sure with all this activity you will be worn out by next week! Take a break from cooking on Tuesday night and head over to the Sons of Italy for dinner! They are opening their Spaghetti Dinner night to the public on the 24th from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
As you can see, there is plenty to do and see for a winter-pick-me-up. Get out and take advantage of all the area has to offer!
