Spring Skin Care

Despite last week’s weather, it is officially spring! It may take a bit before we see tulips and daffodils, but the days are getting longer and hopefully that will help the snow melt and lead to warmer days soon.
The change of seasons often means it is time to change up makeup and skincare routines. Warmer days and more sunshine means less heavy moisturizers and color changes or foundations and other palates.
One way to set the tone for changing seasons is with a season appropriate mask. Here are few to help kick off spring!
If you are still suffering from dry winter skin, trying mashing up ½ of a very ripe avocado, 2 tablespoons of honey and ½ teaspoon of coconut oil. Apply to your face and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Wipe off with a warm washcloth and then rinse.
Have acne or eczema then consider this one: 1/3 cup instant oatmeal, 1/2 cup hot water, 1 tablespoon honey, 1-2 tablespoons plain, unsweetened yogurt. Add the water to your oatmeal and stir for a few minutes until it’s plumped up nicely. Add the honey and yogurt, and put through a blender to smooth and combine it really well. Slather this all over your face, leave on for 10 minutes or so, and then wash with warm water. Pat dry. This mask can also be used on eczema patches on other parts of your body, such as inner arms, the backs of your knees, your neck, etc. For areas other than your face, you can leave the treatment on for a bit longer before washing it off.
Spring means allergens will be out in force. That can mean puffiness. Try this mask to de-puff and drive out toxins. The caffeine from coffee grounds in this will helps to reduce swelling and puffiness, while the antioxidants in the cocoa help to reduce aging, and the yogurt replenishes lost moisture. Mix together: 2 tablespoons freshly ground coffee, 2 tablespoons pure cocoa powder, 1 tablespoon honey, 3 tablespoons yogurt or sour cream and spread evenly over skin, and allow it to sit for about 10 minutes. When you rinse it off, massage your face gently to exfoliate as well.
If you have issue with large pores, try this. In a blender add half of a well-washed cucumber and 2 tablespoons of honey — blend well. Place the mix in a bowl and add 1-2 tablespoons of oatmeal until you get a nice thick mix. Add more oatmeal if you need it. Apply to your face and allow to sit for around 20 minutes. Rinse with water that you’ve added 1-2 tablespoons of lemon juice to.
Again dry skin is no joke this time of year, so getting plenty of moisture is key! Beat an egg yolk and add a teaspoon of coconut oil, 1 teaspoon of plain, unsweetened yogurt and a couple of teaspoons of finely ground oatmeal or oat flour. Apply to face and neck leave sit for 20 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.
These are just a couple of nice masks to get you fresh-faced and ready for spring. Remember, when all else fails, plain old coconut oil will cure what ails you. Dry skin and hair can be easily aided with a layer of coconut oil!
  Happy Spring y’all!
